Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect after testing.
You will receive your sequencing results from our testing partner, Helix. While it could take up to a few months, we generally expect Helix to finish sequencing your DNA in 4-8 weeks. You will be notified via email when your sample has successfully reached the lab. Once your DNA has been sequenced, you will have access to your own person Healthy Nevada Traits App featuring ancestry and trait information. You can choose to purchase other apps in the Helix App Store but are not obligated to do so.
Note: All third-party transactions made through the Helix store are independent and not affiliated with the Healthy Nevada Project.
Does Everyone Receive Genetic Results?
No news is good news: You will not hear from us if we didn’t find any genetic risks associated with your DNA.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect?
The Healthy Nevada Project currently provides genetic analysis reports only to participants with gene variants that can cause an increased risk to develop one or more of the following conditions: Familial Hypercholesterolemia, Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Syndrome and Lynch Syndrome). With the care of your health care specialist, many of these conditions can be prevented or treated successfully when detected at an early stage.
How Will I Be Notified About My Results?
If you chose to be notified about the results and we find any genetic variant associated with increased risk for any of the above conditions in your DNA, a coordinator from our partner Genome Medical will call you. They will remind you of the study and verify that you are still interested to hear about your results. They will set up an appointment/phone call with a Genome Medical genetic counselor who will inform you about the findings and The genetic counselor will suggest you contact your primary care provider to confirm your results and to create a further plan of action. Genome Medical will provide information for you to share with your primary care provider and family members.
What if I Don’t’ Have a Primary Care Provider or Health Insurance?
If you do not have primary care provider or health insurance, you will receive the full consultation from Genome Medical genetic counselor and you will be offered secondary testing to confirm your findings. When your results are the genetic counselor will suggest an action plan for you, provide information for your family members and refer you to a local primary care provider.

Will I Get Any More Results?
The Healthy Nevada Project researchers will continue to report on other hereditary risks and we will update the screening of your DNA as genomic medicine advances. Continue to check your emails regularly and if you have any concerns about your health, consult with your physician.
If you agree to be contacted, our team will send a follow-up survey at a later date. By providing your anonymous responses, you are strengthening the Project to learn more about the health and health risks of our community.
This email survey will be sent from Renown IHI and if you complete this survey, you will be entered to win an iPhone XR free of charge. The odds of winning are approximately 1 in 5000 but could change at any point in the future.
Nevadans over the age of 18 years are welcome to join, therefore, please invite your family, friends, and co-workers to join this groundbreaking study.
